Little Did I Know

Soon after I wrote the blog yesterday,

I was taken out and straight to a surprise birthday party..whereupon I saw my boy and grandson who live in Charlotte there as well.  They drove all the way here to help surprise me and surprise me it did!  I was speechless!  I have never had a surprise party before believe it or not and it was fabulous.  Best birthday I have had. Really.

I ate so much yesterday that today’s supper on my actual birthday (it was easier for everyone to gather the day before my birthday) I had 4, count ’em four ears of corn and some baked beans.  YUMMY!  Corn had salt butter and pepper on it and I gnawed off every kernel.  been wanting corn on the cob for a time now.

My boy brought some premium cupcakes from a cupcakery in Ballentyne, in Charlotte for the cake eatin’.  OH they were absolutely insanely delicius and the icing was inches high!  INCHES!!!  And the chocolate so intense tasting one was truly enough!  They charge a kazillin dollars for those things each.  Good grief.

Miss Catt aka the Admiral said she is still doing very well..eating, taking her pill, purring and hasn’t stopped bathing since she got home.  She never felt well enough to bathe so I helped her a lot.  Now..for now..she feels great.  The loves she gives us..the bathing, eating and even how she naps says how much better she presently feels.

We love that little tiny girl..all 6 pounds of her frail self.

xoxox  Thank you for your birthday wishes, my friends. xxxooo

Working hard

I am busting my self trying to do the PT prescribed.  I do it faithfully each day.

I have PT at the Clinic 2 times a week but go thru the exercises 5 times aday every day.  There is progress.  I’m coming closer to making a closed fist.  Maybe half way there.

Had a disappointing lunch at Cracker Barrel off an Interstate exit into a small town.  POOR service all around.  Twice.  So that’s it for that place.

My Blogger blog told what happened at the Salon. So I won’t go thru it here.

You guys OK?  All I have been talking about is my accident.  xoxoxo

Oh my. Looks like diet time

My yearly full blood test showed good numbers except a slight elevation in cholesterol.  Instead of  94, it traveled up to over a hundred.  I know why and I am taking steps to knock it back down.  I just went to the dickens years back when I quit smoking  and apparently, I haven’t quit compensating for no cigarettes by eating more treat-like foods so he urged me to shed the 18 pounds I gained.  Oh OK then!  Gees,  Can’t have any fun at all.

So, I had veggies (which I love) for supper tonight and I was careful during the day.  I find when I log what I eat, I do better.

Meanwhile, the small Mrs. that lives here has gone 3 weeks over her usual “HAVE to go” times to the V-E-T.  She is starting to itch more so I would say this week for certain.  Oh man.  I just wish there was someone here to distract her and help get her in that carrier.

I managed to win three Scrabble games this past week or so.  However, I was thrashed again today but not as soundly.  Not that much of a point spread.

I heard from a delightful and lovely lady who wrote the poem that I included in a blog a year or so ago called “Hold Fast the Summer”.  She came upon that particular blog and commented on it a few days ago.  I had accidentally mis-spelled her last name by transposing the last two letters.   It was about us having to let our boys go to their own lives..this is just loosely speaking. What a delight it was to hear from her and she is sending me a book of poems she wrote herself.  I can hardly wait.  I really enjoy things like that. I was so sorry that mis-spell happened, but she was gracious about it.

Just stopping in..I have been to several of you all’s blogs on WP.

She’s playing with one of my sons..a fishy on a string.

Done come an’ Gone

The oldest was here as of last evening until noon today and I had the pleasure of feeding him up.  One thing that I won’t do is bake the chicken again.  Oh it was good enough but that was all…good enough not delicious.  I was a tad disappointed.  My all time favorite really is that Italian grilled chicken I showed you a picture of while it was pan grilling and what a great seasoning I made for it.  Next time, that’s what we will do. But we had that and instead of potatoes of any type I chose another type of rice dish that he was not all that enthused about.  He ate it but it wasn’t his most favorite.  However..this morning was all about three biscuits, strawberry preserves, butter, a mess of scrambled eggs and lots of thick cut bacon along with black coffee.  That was his breakfast..mine was two slices of toast with honey and a 14 oz. cuppa joe.

He, the oldest son also bought a new iTouch as did I..I blogged about it yesterday, so we had those iTouches out part of the evening trying to get up to speed on using it.  I got more Apps too for mine.  Free Apps. And thank you Jade for telling me about Twit Bird.    I only have one paid for App..the bird one. I have had bird App envy since my youngest got his iPhone when they first came out and as he updates when new iterations are issued out..he updates his Apps too and as he is a hobbyist photographer of nature scenes and birds..he has learned most of the birds and their sounds already from experience.  But sometimes one shows up that you don’t recognize and our Apps have every one (bird)  in the U.S. in it.  Ain’t no one flying by that we won’t be able to see in the App and hear their voices too.  It is so cool!!! And now I don’t have to be jealous of that App.

It is another outstandingly sunny and sparkling crisp day.  Even though it was 57, I had the car’s moon roof opened some so as to get the sun on me and have the fresh air.  That will end within a week or so as it will be too cold.  Just taking advantage of a great day again.  No outside exercise as I have been gone and too..very little sleep.

OH.  That picture of the paper in the file in my kitchen yesterday.  No one must have noticed that I said that picture was several months old.  So the little file had been cleaned up at that time. Miss Catt said no more photos of her commode either.  She’ll make me pay!

See you soon.

In the movie Field of Dreams, ghosts of baseball players from long ago tell the man to build a baseball field, saying "If you build it, they will come." Now that the balance of the family has come over the mountains, we have had our own suh experience. But, ’tis a Tower of Dreams, not a field.

[Channelling the spirit of Sophia Petrillo…]

Picture it: the hometown, 2009. The family gathered in a Krystal restaurant to demolish a sackful of small, square, steamed (and alliterative) burgers. Nearly everyone was behaving, but, the middle son was suddenly possessed with the need to build. What did he build? The Tower of Krystals.  He started by building a 4 high single tower with a crown of folded boxes. But, with the addition of everyone’s boxes he was able to build a stronger and higher tower with a double base, cross members and windows in every floor. He built a tower using all 20 boxes the family used. It was truly the grandest structure in the whole restaurant. It attracted some attention from the patrons… most likely jealousy. So, move over, Frank Lloyd Wright. Here’s the new standard in modern architecture… and it’s environmentally friendly as well as quite tasty!

If I were Queen I would order up or cook a huge pan of fried potatoes and onions!  Oh man.  I miss good Southern greasy food.  Grease, someone once wrote is what makes food taste good.

Now I know better but when you’re longing for a greasy food, hey, the saying someone wrote somewhere about grease is true!!  I’ll stand by that.

How about chicken fried steak?  No? OK.  I’ll have some pinto beans please with cole slaw on the side.  Oh and add some mashed potatoes to the plate please.  Lots of butter on that.

Dessert?  Please.  Pineapple upside down cake if you have it or Boston Cream Pie if you don’t.

Of course I am sitting here eating grapes.  Sigh.
